THE ARTIST
Growing up in California with parents who enjoyed
the outdoors, gave me many opportunities to
explore nature, learn to appreciate it, and become
interested in wildlife.
I'm intrigued with how the colors and patterns
found in an animals coat, a reptiles skin, a birds
feathers, work to camouflage it. Because of this
interest I sometimes paint animals into an
environment where at first glance they may not be
noticed.
Largely self-taught, I work in watercolor on heavy
weight paper. After a detailed drawing is completed
I layer washes of paint, beginning with the lightest
color first, on the entire surface. After each layer of
paint dries I progress into the darker washes until
the painting is completed. This technique is known
as glazing After the glazing process is finished I will
go back into the painting to darken some areas
with mixed colors.
Cherice with Red-tailed Hawk.
This bird resides at a rehabilitation center. It can
not be released into the wild because of an injury
to it's wing and is now used to educate the public
about wildlife.
